Criteria for declaring a performance "good"

Posted by: mikeeschman on 22 November 2008

1- if it's absolutely, exquisitely on time.
2- if it's absolutely, exquisitely in tune.

then it's worth hearing. if it's old (say 1930)
and it meets conditions 1 and 2, you will be able to listen down into the recording and hear the musicians in all their glory. if it's a good recording, so much the better.

For all other matters :

Mike,

I've read your intro several times and with great interest.

Let me just say, straight off, that I am by no means musically educated. From what I've heard of you posts, you are very knowledgeable in this area. I have the greatest respect for those with musical ability and it appears you are solidly in that camp..

Having said that, I must admit I have no idea what makes a good performance. .. So I guess my answer is.. f*cked if I know ! Big Grin

Mostly I just go by feel. Cool

Cheers and Happy Listening

DMC, I'm with you. If I'm engaged, enjoying it or my foot is tapping, it's good.
