new tv-drive

Posted by: john R1 on 03 September 2006

telewest replaced my tv-drive yesterday, as the old one kept refusing to work, what i noticed was how bad the picture was fed via scart connection, which he had to use to set it up for component, is anybody else using tv-drive via scart, and if so what sort of pq are you getting ?

jay, they replaced it because it kept freezing up, ie could not change channels or switch it on or off, dont know it is was the tv-drive or telewest themselves with there somewhat eractic signal, phoned them again today as i can't get anything on the teleport channels, on the new one, again don't know if its the tv-drive or telewest, they don't know neither, so engineer is coming out again on wednesday morning, time i get this sorted perhaps i will have my replacement n-vi ?

The TV Drive can't send component video through the scart - only throught the 3 phono component sockets.

It's probably set to CompoSITE - which is the worst signal a scart can carry.

Go into the setup and change it to RGB on the scart, also make sure it's set to the correct widescreen mode for your screen.
The difference should be stunning... mine was.
If set up correctly, on sky 1 Enterprise/Lost/Brainiac etc should be in 16:9, and Simpsons/Futurama should be in 4:3 with black bars down the sides.
Early Malcom/Stargate will still be 4:3, but later episodes in 16:9

For reference we've got TVDrives in 2 rooms at home, and both engineers utterly failed to set the box up for the best Scart picture and correct screen ratio.

mike, i don't use the scart connection, he only used it to get into the set up menu, i use component to vga so its set up on hd,

I see!

Mind you, same applies... if he'd set scart output to RGB before setting it up for component, you'd have seen how good scart can be out of one of those Winker

mike, ill take your word on that one, am not going to try it, as putting it back on hd can be a pain,
