Eminem?

I saw the film '8 mile' on the telly about a year ago and just came home from the barbers where there was some Eminem on the TV there. It sounded good. I don't own any Eminem or any other music of this sort. Can anyone tell me which Eminem CD is a good place to start?

I'm not a huge fan of his, but the "Slim Shady Lp"(his first album, I believe) and "Encore" are worth the price of admission, IMHO. The "Encore" album is also a sonic blockbuster.

I really like the 'Marshall Mathers LP' and 'Slim Shady LP'. Full of catchy music and witty lyrics, with songs such as 'Stan' and '97 Bonnie and Clyde'. When my 2 girls were younger I made sure they didn't hear either of them due to the content. I was on the school bus with them one day when 'The Real Slim Shady' came on the radio. The entire bus load sang along word perfect...

I looked on Amazon and read the reviews on Slim Shady and Marshal Mather. They were so positive that added to you recomendations Komet and Big Brother I orderd these two too. In fact now all three on there way [postal strike permitting] for total cost of around a tenner [£]. Thanks for the recommendations guys - I'll let you know how I get on.

...and if you like the Eminem albums check out 2001 by Dr Dre (who produces all Eminem's stuff). Another sonic masterpiece if you can tolerate the mysogeny!

Cheers,

Rich

I generally hate this stuff, but "Slim Shady Lp" gets listened to regularly. Sonically impressive, rythmic and very clever.

Completely agree. The feeling that Dre can evoke with a kick, snare, hat and bass line is incredible. But I've never been an Eminem fan. The best thing about Eminem is Dre IMHO.

Marshal Mather came yesterday and I have listened to it 3 or 4 times in the car. Wow, now I know what 'Parental Advisory' means. I was pretty shocked on first listen. I think some of the tracks are absolutely brilliant musically - so much energy and the rhyming and rythm of the words is very impressive. I like middle aged rock stars but this kind of blows that stuff away. Eager for the Slim Shady and Encore to arrive.

Marshall Mathers LP is his best imo. Happy listening.
