Welcome back bass!

Posted by: Haroon on 10 September 2003

Ive been away for a while from my system - travelling the world with s portable fm/sw radio!when I returned I had forgotten how it all sounded. First I setup the rega 3, goldring 1042 with the nait3 and the old castle trent speakers as I had no space for my Intros. This was all well as I had been used to the portable radio. but after a while listening to records i knew well I knew things were not right enoug - there could be more bass, air and space, just general spark and life to the music. Well now that im settled into my newly decorated room I thought its about time to get the Intros (late model - 2??) on duty. And wow bass is back in action - listening to Heavy Intro - Amar on Talvin Singhs Anokha album made me jump at one point. Its all just a lot less compressed too. The only thing is I think the bass maybe in overdrive as I have laminate flooring on sub-floors and the rega not wall mounted. But heck Im going to enjoy it like this for a little while yet. Though always welcome to suggestions for upgrades/improvements. Next up LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse mix) - Bring it on muthas!!!! Smile

I think you could do with some Mana.

Under your turntable, and some Sound Bases under your speakers. Intros are a bit bloomy in the bass imho, but the Sound Bases should tighten it up nicely.

As for under your turntable, if the Mana is too expensive right now, try Rega's own wallshelf for about 35 quid.

where can i buy the sound bases in uk?

theres a snag with the wall shelf - there are only two spaces for the hifi - at the moment under the light switch - so mounting the wall shelf there i might hit the elec wiring. the second place is next to a radiator - how much would the heat affect the system??

Cheers

Be safe - buy a cable detector from a DIY store. They only cost a few quid and will tell you if you have power cables or water pipes hiding just where you are about to launch your masonry drill....
