RIP Charlie Gillett

BBC's World music DJ Charlie Gillett has sadly passed away...

I used to really enjoy his shows on the World Service, particularly when travelling for long stints....

Will be missed.

P.S. And thanks for Dire Straits Charlie!

Lovely chap, had a Peel-like enthusiasm for new music which was hugely infectious.

I'm prepared to overlook Dire Straits Winker - his show on the BBC World Service was a joy, you always discovered at least one artist/genre/album every time you listened to it.

Lovely radio voice too

I always lestened to his weekly World Service programme.

His style of presentation was very low key, and all the more enjoyable for that. He always dug out music that I was pleased to listen to. I had no idea he was ill.

Effectively the man who brought us Dire Straits and a whole host of other fine artists. Sad loss.

His 'Sound of the World Forum' is one of the best and most informative music forums.

A shame that, like Roger Scott, he was mostly heard only in the London area.

BBC Radio London - he was one of the reasons I have so much diverse music in my house. Great loss.
