Posted by: Michal_G on 16 April 2003

Hi gents, I have recently purchased a nait 3 but unfortunately my cd is a non-naim thing. Could anyone help me with soldering such a cable. Has anyone done it before. (I hope it won't be that hard :. A scheme pic would constitute a great help for me. Thanks everyone!!!!

A pin-out of the NAIT din socket can be found in your user manual. If you don't have it, download a NAIT5 one on this site.

I have made cables like this.

I find it easier to use a balanced cable (two conductors, one screen), and split the screen into two for the phono plug ends. With a bit of heatshrink on the phono ends, the job can be quite neat.

Another tip is to solder the DIN plugs whilst plugged into a socket, to ensure the solering iron doesn't distort the geometry of the pins by melting the plastic carrier.
