Hi,
I am sure many of you have had this occur, but it's a first for me, a couple of friends were visiting and we were listening to some music, the conversation went something like this ....

Friend - thats a nice sounding system what is it?
Me - Naim
Friend - yes, who made it
Me - Naim
Friend - yes, thats right, who made it ?
Me - Naim
Friend - what ???? Confused

At this point my other friend who had already looked at the kit, and understood my answer chipped in helpfully, "the names Naim"
Eventually it was just easier to take my friend over and show him the Naim, name on the kit to help explain.

It was all a bit " Bob Hope-ish" ( who's on first base etc), but good for a snigger

Mr. Bounder - Ah. Hello, I'm Bounder of Adventure.
Mr. Smoketoomuch - Oh, hello. My name is Smoketoomuch.
Mr. Bounder - What?
Mr. Smoketoomuch - My name is Smoketoomuch. Mr. Smoketoomuch.
Mr. Bounder - Well, you'd better cut down a little then.
Mr. Smoketoomuch - I'm sorry?
Mr. Bounder - You'd better cut down a little then.
Mr. Smoketoomuch - Oh, I see! Smoke too much so I'd better cut down a little then!
Mr. Bounder - Yes. Ooh, it's going to get people making jokes about your name all the time, eh?
Mr. Smoketoomuch - No, actually, it never struck me before. Smoketoomuch...

Before you all shout at once - I know it was Abbot and Costello Red Face

and here is a short excerpt

Abbott: Goofe' Dean. Well, let's see, we have on the bags, Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know is on third...
Costello: That's what I want to find out.
Abbott: I say Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third.
Costello: Are you the manager?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: You gonna be the coach too?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: And you don't know the fellows' names.
Abbott: Well I should.
Costello: Well then who's on first?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: I mean the fellow's name.
Abbott: Who.
Costello: The guy on first.
Abbott: Who.
Costello: The first baseman.
Abbott: Who.
Costello: The guy playing...
Abbott: Who is on first!
Costello: I'm asking you who's on first.
Abbott: That's the man's name.
Costello: That's who's name?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: Well go ahead and tell me.
Abbott: That's it.
Costello: That's who?
Abbott: Yes.
PAUSE

Costello: Look, you gotta first baseman?
Abbott: Certainly.
Costello: Who's playing first?
Abbott: That's right.
Costello: When you pay off the first baseman every month, who gets the money?
Abbott: Every dollar of it.
Costello: All I'm trying to find out is the fellow's name on first base.
Abbott: Who.
Costello: The guy that gets...
Abbott: That's it.
Costello: Who gets the money...
Abbott: He does, every dollar of it. Sometimes his wife comes down and collects it.
Costello: Who's wife?
Abbott: Yes.

Etc, etc

Actually, discovering NAIM kit and buying into it hook, line and sinker, I feel I've become a little disassociated from the rest of the world as if I've withdrawn into some obscure cult. Typical conversation:

He/Her: "So you're into HiFi? Me too. What kind of HiFi have you got?"
Me: "NAIM, mostly"
Him/Her: "Who?"
Me: "Ah..."

OK, slightly off topic but that made me think the following

Does the UK base for Naim add significant value? Would we be as ardent supporters if it were manufactured elsewhere (but sounded the same)? How much of a factor is the UK origin for non-UK buyers?

Just how British is Naim kit? How much is actually made abroad?

If the UK association adds value should it be emphasised more in advertising and promotion? Perhaps the glowing green lights could be red white and blue!

Just thinking

That was the very video that convinced me to look at Naim when I began my hi-fi search some little while ago.
