Setting up Hiface in Mac

Posted by: Gordon Lau on 10 April 2010

Hiface works. However, while tweaking the settings in Audiomidi, i can change the sampling frequency without a glitch, but tha data all in 2-channel 32bits?

It works great with my SN, but just curious if any else manage to select 16 or 20bits?

That is normal. The Weiss DAC2 is also 32 bits, or was it 64 bits I cannot remember.

My understanding is that this is not something to worry about, in fact with the Weiss DAC the extra bits allow one to use the digital volume control without losing bits.

I believe the Naim DAC is 32 bits as well?

No, it is set to 32bit only. Nothing to worry about though. I think it is simply a 32bit device and fills the extra bits with zeros when handling files that are less than 32bit.

There has been a fair bit of discussion about the HiFace in the 'Distributed Audio' forum. Like a number of posters here, I am a big fan of the HiFace, particularly for the price.

32 bit refers to the internal processing on the hiface, all wordlength conversions and sample rate conversions are done at 32bit accuracy, and then downsampled/ressed to whatever output length you set, 16/44 24/96 for example.
