Anyone heard this combo? (or CDX with an earlier Nait).
Any impressions? Just curious
Cheers from Kiwiland, Rob

I currently use a CDX with a Nait 5/FlatCap2 combo in my main system and just love it. When I upgraded from a CD3.5 to a CDX I realized just how good the Nait 5 really is. I think a CDX2 / Nait 5 combo would be quite good, if perhaps a rather extreme version of a source first approach.

I don't know when it happened, or if indeed it happened at all, but I have detected a redefinition of the source first philosphy evidenced by some of the comments on this forum.
Is the new philosophy "source first, but put too good a source into an unworthy preamp and the amp won't be able to cope with all of the goodness it is being fed ?" or is it just that the inferior preamp may not make the best of the superior source ?
I would contend that the difference between a CD5 and a CDS2 would be obvious through a Nait and therefore not a waste of time. Or am I wrong ?

Minky--
You would not be wrong. I've tried my CDX/XPS and LP12/Geddon/Aro/Troika/Prefix through a Nait 1 into Kans or IBLs and they sound fantastic. The difference between the CDX alone and with the XPS is easily heard.
I think some think that an inferior preamp may not make the best of an inferior source. Some of that, I think, is driven by what people can buy. A CDX2 into a Nait 5 driving appropo speakers should sound fabulous.
Best,
Bob

The improvment from CDX2 to CDS3 is earable on a Nait5 (no FC2, with Credo). I've tried it for fun.
Of course, this is crasily umbalanced but any good amp will benefit of a fantastic source.
The diference between both players is bigger each step up the ladder.
On the opposite, with a bare CD5, IMO, the improvement tops at 202/200 level, adding a HIcap (to the 202) don't give much more music.

All opinions are my own, and reflect those of the organisation i work for, even if not stipulated.

the CDX2 sounds great through a Nait5, a clear and winning step-up from a CD5 given same amp and speakers. Source first all the way.

Rob,
The CDX is an excellant CD player. I had one for many years and got a lot of pleasure from it.
The Nait 5 is also an excellant amp and will work very well with the CDX.
Add a pair of loudspeakers like the Epos M15's or Mission 780's and you will end up with a superb system that will give you years of pleasure and a good base for many upgrades.
Regards

Currently running CDX2/Nait 5/Hi - an embarassment to a great many other systems I've heard.
