Dynavector 17D2

Posted by: Chris L on 21 August 2002

Hi Folks,

I wondered if anyone with a 17D(2) could help with something I'm wondering about: what's the mounting to stylus distance (overhang?) of the 17D2?

The reason I'm asking is for it's compatibility with the ARO - I've been told that the ideal for the ARO is around 8-8.5mm, like the Dyn XX2.

I know lots of people use 17D's with the ARO, I'm just asking as if it's not in the ideal range for this, then I might tighten the old belt, and spring for an XX2 (but it's not a decision to be taken lightly!).

Thanks,

Chris L

Art Dudley of the almost dead Listener magazine reviewed this cart a year or so ago, using an ARO. He admitted the slight mismatch, but was exteremely complimentary nevertheless. Art has good ears, even taking account of his deviation into SET-Lowther territory.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still a couple of months away from actually buying the replacement cartridge, so I'll let you all know what I decide.

In the light of your replies, the choice is still going to come down to funds - if I can afford it, I'll go for an XX2, if not, then a 17D2.

Cheers,

Hi Chris

I bought a 17D2 in (overall) preference to a Linn rebuilt Troika. You don't need to worry about a slight mismatch - it works fine. The XX2 is better and will be on my shortlist once the 17D2 is worn out but if I can't afford an upgrade at the time I would happily buy another 17D2. If you are still on a Valhalla power supply a 17D2 and supply upgrade may be a better combination than an XX2.
