LP12 advice needed!
Posted by: Christopher on 10 July 2002
Seen a used lp12, advertised as "LINN SONDEK LP12 Transcription Deck + Akito + Linn K18". Serial number is 81503.
I'm new to this game... can anybody offer any advice as to what I should be looking to pay for this (it is in good condition), what I should be looking for etc.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thx.

This turntable is on EBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1365185814 should anybody be interested.
Looks in fine condition with a Valhalla. Dates from 1989/1990, there's no comment on whether Cirkus has been fitted.
Maybe it's worth £500?

...with that s/n, it wouldn't have had Cirkus as standard. It's reasonable to assume that the vendor would have mentioned it if a Cirkus had been fitted. After all, he does mention "top Akito Tone Arm and Linn K18 ultimate moving magnet Cartridge which has lockable Stylus" so he's clearly a knowledgable, dedicated Flat-Earther...

Hi
get intouch to see where and when it was serviced, then check with the dealer .Bear in mind a new cartridge is the best way to go to give piece of mind that your precious collection is not at risk .Check last issue of hi-fi+ for tips on exact revision model.A service will then cost approx £80.LP12's are truely golden but there are a few dogs around,it is a quetion of time!!

"Check last issue of hi-fi+ for tips on exact revision model"... you mean this will say which serial numbers have which version of the deck? Unfortunately I can't get hi-fi+ here (Geneva)... can anybody help? i.e. what the revision model is, and the significance of this! I'm only going to buy once so I want to make sure I get the best possible version!

LP12 link
I was trying to give credit where credit is due (having questioned GizmoGirl's status elsewhere it was the least I could do)
