Quick question

Posted by: Arun Mehan on 12 March 2002

Where is NAD HQ? Also, where is Classe HQ?

For some reason, I thought NAD was German and now I've been lead to believe the U.K. Next I thought Classe was European (France actually, due to the missing accent on the 'e') but another person told me Canada. For you smart-mouthed people, yes I'm Canadian but really don't know that much about (insert "Canadian accent") the Canadian audio companies other than Bryston and Totem.

Thank you.

Isn't Blue circle made in Canada? Sonic Frontiers, and Plitron (only parts).

Thanks Vuk, didn't know the BC guy lives that close to us. Interesting...

Anyways, is Proton a knock-off of NAD or basically a cheaper-badged version (Lexus ES300 vs Toyota Camry for all you car buffs)???

Thanks.

You see, I thought, at least in the old days, NAD was a hybrid between the UK and Canada... Canadian money etc but British design??

Of course, it is conceivable that NAD has gone through several ownership phases over the years. confused

Proton is/was owned and made by the (Taiwanese?) company that used to manufacture NAD's gear for NAD, until they desired to make their own gear... that looks surprisingly like NAD's...

Is Proton still in business? I know that there's a completely unrelated Proton automobile manufacturer in Malaysia, but I haven't seen Proton hifi gear in ages.

Cheers

Keith.

I thought NAD was hq'ed in Cambridge MA, USA but built in Taiwan. That may not still be the case, but I think that was for most of their life.

I skimmed through "About NAD" on Nad.co.uk ... and amongst the waffle found Nad Electronics International with an Ontario address as main address. The "About Page appeared to waffle on - the quick (wag's)conclusion after digesting this burger+fries quicky company statement is that NAD is now another stateless glabal Brand company. Oh dear. big grin

More of the same on nadelectronics.com

Oh - and Classé is Canadian.

BTW - Anyone heard that the Parts Connection is no more?
