well I took a trip into maplins today and happened across some BNC conectors and throught that would be better than the adaptors I am using at the moment.
However I am totally confused so I havn't cut anything yet!
I assumed that crimping meant no soldering, but so far all I can work out is the centre pin would be secure, where does the other wire go?
Anyway attached is an image of the entire contents of the packet, its from maplins, code number JC23 Crimp Plug 50
Thanks guys!

You need a special crimp tool to squash the cylinder bit onto the centre over the screen of the cable.
Here's an old network cable I found earlier,

Thanks paul, presumably the centre wire goes in the centre, the 'earth' wire contacts with where the crimping takes place?

IIRC you have to crimp the centre wire to the pin, then when you push the pin into the plug the tubular bit of the plug goes up inside the wire between the inner insulation and the screen. You then crimp the outer over the lot.
This type of BNC is quite closely matched with a particular cable construction, I think you may be best off consulting a Naim dealer about suitable BNCs for particular arm cables. With a Rega (?) the best bet may actually be adaptors.

Yea, after some consoltation with my capabilities I think I may leave this particular tweak alone. I have some really good quality Chord Co. RCAs on the end of the deck anyhow.
My main concern here is the wire is very thin, and the outer hole (where in your picture the white wire goes in) is very big, I think these BNCs were not created for Hi Fi. Plus the crimper I got was not the right one, I know the one I need as well.
Ah well only a few quid wasted this time!
Thanks for the help.

You probably need BNC's for RG174 or similar RF cables - they are quite thin (3mm or so?).
Not sure what impedance connector Naim use, 50 or 75 ohm.
I'd go with solder / clamp types every time. Crimps are for speed, but are less reliable - the outer cable clamp compresses the jacket and eventually works loose.

Naim use a specific 50 0hm plug which requires solder and no crimping. Instructions for fitting this type of plug appear in the pre-amp manual, which is probably available on the naim web-site. I replaced the crap moulded phono's on my Ittok, and was shocked at the level of improvement. All those years of phono to BNC adapters... Your local naim dealer will probably have the correct BNC plugs, or will get you them from naim. They are much better than Maplin ones.
Best wishes,
Mick.
