Matt,
I know it is expensive and can understand you point, however I could not believe the improvement my Fraim made to my system. Even the wife could not believe it.

Fraim was out of the question for me too, but I got a big improvement by moving my system off Target and onto a second-hand Mana rack. Getting my TT off a Sound Org table and onto a Mana one-tier was even bigger.

Matt,
Check out the Apollo range, their cheap and cheerful but they do the job very well.
I used one to support my CDX/XPS 82/HI/180 for many years.
Regards

I am very pleased with the Quadraspire Q4 stand. Although I'm sure it is not as good as the Fraim, the cost was very reasonable (a fraction of the Fraim), it is very attractive IMHO, and you can add additional shelves and specify the spacing between shelves.

Hutter would be a good choice, less Hostess than QS.

I can't say that I found an enormous improvement in moving my amps off of a light wooden table onto a Sound Org rack. Clearly, any rack change has to overcome the effects of the gear being switched off, and AFAIC Sound Org doesn't hugely. The bass was a bit tighter, punchier, etc. I can only contrast this to people's description of changing to proper stands (hutter/fraim/Q4R/mana). The effect of such purchases are usually measured in terms of box upgrades, which clearly outrun the powerdown.

The Quadraspire Reference is jaw-droppingly better than the standard Q4 and it's much cheaper than the Fraim.
4-tier plus runt shelf in black with silver rods should cost about £730.

Steve.

moving from Sound Organisation metal/glass 5 tier rack to 1 x Q4,1 x Q4 ref and 1 x Q4 ref wall shelf in light oak/silver all being fitted tomorrow evening so I'll let you know how it sounds......

Installed last night.......
First impressions apart from that it all looks a million times better is that the QS Ref made a massive difference to my CDX/CDPS/82/2*hicap/250 set up but the Linn LP12 on the QS Ref wall shelf seemed fairly dull. It was on a simple IKEA Lack before so I was expecting a big leap in sound quality.
I'm sure this may change when all the gear warms up again I'll let you know.
