Swiftest accident in history?

OK guys, beat this.
I have just collected my new car, a gorgeous metallic red Lotus Elise.
20 feet from the showroom doorway I drove over a row of metal inspection plates in the dealers car park. One twisted, broke and has punched an 8 cm hole clean through the underside of the rear three-quarter panel.
I had not even made it to the road!
The dealer is utterly contrite and sorting the repair ASAP for me but you can imagine my initial reaction.
Pics to follow, when I'm a little calmer.

Nice car Bruce. Damage fixes, so don't worry. I'm on the lookout for an S1 at the moment.

Bad luck with that, hope it all gets sorted.
When I collected my Aygo the glove box door fell to bits when I opened it to put the paperwork away upon getting into the car at the dealers.

I can only sympathise, sounds like something that would happen to me.
Have that lent you an Exige?
BTW good use of mixed Imperial and metric. How big is 8cm?

The dealer sells Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin as well as Lotus. I'm working on a courtesy car upgrade....

I'm sure it will all get sorted out nicely. No need to worry.
Perhaps you need to get a job as a teacher, or let's hope Consciousmess reads this thread - a new Lotus should improve his street-cred with the kids no end, and be the envy of all the other teachers!
Cheers

Hard luck Bruce! I'm sure they'll sort it out pronto.
[Not as quick as your mishap, but I'm reminded of the time in the '80s when the Sheffield University Athletics Union Landrover, returning from Damflask Revervoir with the Rowing Club, skidded on ice and collided with a brand new sports car parked outside the Post Office. The driver came out, shrieked and wondered what she'd tell her husband ... "we only got it yesterday..." The car was in fact a write-off. There was - of course - barely a scratch on the Landrover.]

Ah, the landrover Defender, what a motor had one for years now the more dents the better the character of the vehicle.

On the day I went to collect my new Evo, the dealer's foot slipped off the clutch and he hit the showroom wall hard, crumpling the whole rear end.
I declined a repair and waited a month for another one.
Sorry to hear your woes, but keen to hear how it compares to the Caterham.

Shucks Bruce, that's really unlucky! Hopefully it'll be all the better for having had another once-over...

Not sure I'd be happy with a repair on a brand new , not even road run motor.
