Another blues thread - what covers work for you

Many people have covered old blues tracks. Some work well while others are...........not so good.

What are the highs and lows for you

I have the Blues and Mr Johnson CD by Eric Clapton and it does not work for me very well. For a start is way too polished and the full band does not seem to work either, maybe because Johnson only used a guitar.

Cowboy junkies "whites off earth now" is great stuff. I also like what PJ Harvey did with "Wang Dang Doodle" (originally sung by Howling Wolf and written by Willie Dixon).

Covers that I know of from the 1960s seem to work well.

Of course, a lot of the early (and later, come to think of it) Led Zeppelin material was rehashed (and usually not accredited) old blues material. Of those, I think 'I Can't Quit You Baby', 'Killing Floor (the Lemon Song)' and 'When the Levee Breaks' are rather good.

most of these do justice to the sound of Junior kimbrough. Love the black keys and can't wait to see them in June Cool
