Dynavector 10x5.... or something else
Posted by: kid spatula on 21 July 2003
I am in the market for a new cartridge (to fix my mullet) and want to spend a maximum of £250.
I am currently using:
rega p25 with rega bias
42.5/90
credos
After doing some research, the dynavector 10x5 seems to be the cart to go for. Does anyone have any opinions about this cart and any other alternatives to look at (my dealer suggested getting a new power amp!)?

The Linn Adikt (£195) works really well with P25. Just give it a few hours to run in.
Not heard the 10x5 so can't compare.

I compared the Adikt against the DV10X5. I have an LP12 with an Ittok. In the setup I heard it in, the Adikt had a darker sound to it, seemed less punchy, and a bit clumsy in the bass compared to the Dynavector. I went for the DV, as I felt it was well worth the extra £50. In my modest system, it hasn't put a foot wrong so far as I can tell.

Thanks for the info.
So, I should get the 10x5.
Just what I thought.
Thanks M

I listened to the Adikt and the DV10x4 last year. The DV was more involving than the Linn. The dealer (who shall remain anonymous) described the Linn as 'competent' - I think that's what they call damning with faint praise! I bought the 10x4

I lived with the 10x5 for years before upgrading to the DV20H. It is an excellent cartridge, you cannot go wrong.
