US dealer network question

NAIMGAIM and other dealers,
I'm all for supporting local dealers - generally you pay more - you get more. I have been lucky enough to get most of my gear used from a local dealer. I may pay a little more than ebay prices but I know my local dealer will help me out if something goes wrong, and I get to see the gear before hand. So here's my question - does the US dealer network allow dealers to check on used inventory at other dealers. This would allow someone to get a better (older) system for less money. For example, most would consider a used CDX over a new CD5 if it meant a relatively small increment in price.
cheers,
Dan
