The Heat?

Posted by: u5227470736789439 on 04 July 2006

In the last few days, during this mini heat-wave, I have noted normally sensible people becoming unpleasant, and behaving thoughtlessly.

Will it do to blame the heat? Certainly a horse or dog may become crabby in the hotand should be dealt with carefully, but I am I being unreasonable to expect better of collegues and friends?

My view is that it is important to slow down enough to remain sanguine in the face of the unreasonable heat, and I practice this, with strange results, not the least of which was that I was observed at work today as being more than usually gentle when things went a bit wrong.

Patience is the watch-word, at least till the thunder comes! I think so anyway! When the thunder comes what out though! I get manic. [Smiley]!

Be nice, and be cool, despite sweating! ATB from Fredrik

Hi Fredrik,

I found a nice quiet spot in a local park and sat down to enjoy the view and thought I would spend 30 mins meditating. I completely lost all sense of time and 2 hours later found that I was beetroot.

Breaking the rules of normal decorum, even though you will have to fill in the letters:-
"F--- Me Pink!"

Fredrik

PS:

Do you know the one about the nice three Irish lady potato sisters who decided to get married all on the same day.

They went to the piest and declared their intentions.

The father asked the eldest who the intended was and she replied that it was Red Craig's Royal, and he remarked that this was a great choice.

The second said that her selection was King Edward's, and the priest exclaimmed, " A Royal wedding! How fine!"

Then he asked the third, and she replied, "Desmond Lynham." The priest was saddened, noting only that he was just a commom 'tater!

That's a terrible 'joke'. I fear that the heat has got to you too!

It's raining in London this morning so that, coupled with Ingerlund's demise in the footie, may result in a return to more civilised values.

I thought we were all blaming Portuguese Ronaldo.

Anyway if you want to be cool in the heat then buy a leather jacket. It worked for the Fonz.

Dear Fredrik

The heat may be off, but it is still very humid down here. How is it up there in Hereford?

Dear Mark,

The temprature is down, and it is pleasantly breezy. Just my sort of summer night.

Time to crack a beer methinks...

And why would you not? Typically for a Friday evening I am somewhat towards the bottom of my second (large) glass of a rather enjoyable Cotes du Rhone.....contemplating bed but the temptation of another tip of the bottle may prove overwhelming.

Well this week has been overwhelmingly unpleasant for me with this latest bout of heat. I don't enjoy it at all. You will never hear me go on about rain (I love it,) the cold ( Ilove it and can put on another layer of clothes), or even the dark evenings.

And again I notice it brings out the truly nasty in people. I would expect something of the sort from animals, if they had not be kindly reared. But surely human's might be expected to react better just because their ability to think conceptually, and then be sensible of others.

It does not happen though. Perhaps I am mistaking possibility for actuality!

Fredrik,

Poor you. Personally I love it. The girls are out in force wearing precious little. The flowers in the parks smell wonderful (Brighton&Hove are full of beautiful parks and there is possibly more park space per capita than anywhere else in the country). A stroll along the beach at any time of day is a delight. A few days ago there were still hundreds and hundreds of people on the beach at 10.30 pm having beach parties etc. One couple at least were having a very intimate party by themselves and good for them says I. Sitting outside a bar with a beer watching the world go by is very civilised. Earl Grey tea whilst sitting in the garden reading a good book. I just love it all. And if someone wants to be rude, irritble or difficult with me then that is entirely their problem and I dont make it mine. I wish every day was like this (with plenty of rain at night of course. Sounds like you have (SAD)Seasonal Defectice Disorder - in reverse. People in cold dark countries like Norway when they have 23 hours of darnkess per day sometimes get SAD and have to sit in from of bright lamps for an hour a day.

The cure for you is to sit in your fridge with no light on for an hour or two and you will feel as right as ..er rain. Winker

All the best

think it's normal for people to behave a bit strange when the weather is wacked....
We had the heatwave last week 38ÂșC+ most of the week.

Dear Fredrik,

Even in Norway it's been quite hot some days now, but we all know that soon the autumn and pouring rain is coming soon (even snow).

We should ENJOY the good and hot weather as long as possible. Just relax!

Dear Fredrik,

I am half Norwegian. I have two lovely cousins in Oslo, where my Aunt also lives, and we are great friends. My late grandparents lived near Moss on the Island of Jeloy in the Oslofjord, and I have spent many happy weeks with them in the summer time over the years, both, in the South, and up near Geilo...

I wish English people would relax and enjoy the summer (if they can enjoy the heat), but my vexation is with those who seem to become vindictive towards others (including me), which I cannot understand or deal with. I do think the heat brings out a very unpleasant streak in some the inhabitants of this Sceptered Isle. I am still looking forward to the begining of September! I refuse to join in though, which makes them worse. People are very strange.

All the best from Fredrik

Ah, you Brits. A bit of heat and you fall apart at the seams, you poor darlings Smile. But that's because you're not set up for high temperatures, which you only get occasionally. Over here in Oz, we have nuclear-strength air conditioning.

On the other hand if we have an inch of snow the country grinds to a halt.
Oh to live in the UK.

Hi Fredrik,
Is this an abreviation of the phrase -
"F--- me pink in the moonlight"?

Hi,

Im out in it all day every day bleedin bricklaying and let me tell you it is not pleasant. I drink about six ltrs of water at work without visiting the gents once the whole day.

I spend the whole weekend in as much dark recovering as much as i possibly can. My other half wants to go to the beach at weekends or out for walks, but all i want to do is sit in a black room and do nothing.

Far too hot for my liking!

I wear two sweatbands, when one is soaked i put the other one on, by the time the other one is soaked, the first one has only just dried in the sun. I hate it ,it;s aweful!

Roll on christmas! Roll Eyes

Dear Stephen,

I think it is hard outdoors physical work that puts people, permanently, off the summer heat. I went off it as a fifteen year old with the horrid business of bale hauling on the farm.

My work is indoors now, but involves working with two steam heated pans for conserve batches of up to 500 kg. Roll on Christmas, as you say!

The heat is only nice if you have absolutely nothing that you actually have to do!
