Vinny Peculiar

I was inspired to write this, cos Seagull (bless him/her (Delete as applicable)) namechecked him in another thread. Anyone else heard of him? Got 'Growing up with VP' last year and it was album of the year for me. It's my intention to check out the back catalogue in the near future as well. A seriously underrated artist in my opinion.

I am definitely a 'he'.

I went to see Mr Peculiar at a local Arts Centre purely because his backing band included two ex-Smiths (Rourke and Joyce). I went with no pre-conceptions, I had heard nothing by him before but thoroughly enjoyed the gig. The songs were peculiarly English full of dry wit and observation and good tunes.

We spoke to him afterwards, very engaging, interesting, talented bloke who never had the break that others did.

He relieved me of a few quid in return for a couple of signed CDs.

Anyone who can write songs like 'Jesus Stole My Girlfriend' and 'A Beautiful Woman in Public Sector Management' gets my vote...

Apologies MR Seagull, sir!!! Smile
I was actually drumming for his support act when he played Birmingham in April last year, promoting the album I mentioned earlier. He is a mate of our lead singer and has been for years, but this was the first time i'd heard any of his stuff, and was very impressed. What I can't get over is how very good the sound quality is, considering that it was recorded and mixed on an I-mac! (By the way, my band was 'The World Turned Edgar'- We're still looking for the petrol to set the world alight!)
