What products do you really love?

Posted by: Jonathan Gorse on 17 June 2008

Just thought that it might be worth naming some absolute favourite products - by sharing this information we may all learn a bit!

Pears - the original clear soap. Absolutely love this - the smell, the fact it doesn't dry my skin out when nearly every other soap does. I loved it all my life and used to nag Mum to buy it in the seventies!! Anyone remember all those lovely 'Pears girls' on the telly ads???

Tiptree Orange and tangerine marmalade - Just a heavily concoction of sweet tangerines - spread liberally over butter on toast mmmhhh.

Sharwoods frozen mushy peas (from Iceland) - If you have only ever eaten the tinned stuff these will amaze you. They're so much better than the rubbish the local chippy sells I always make a batch twenty minutes before we go up for the fish and chips! Also good with sausage or pie and mash!

Henna Henara treatment wax - just the best hair conditioner I have ever used and only £2-3 a bottle. Makes my hair feel great - though harder to find on the High Street nowadays!

Neutrogena rain bath shower gel - just a gorgeous smell and makes your skin feel amazing but now only available in this country to the hotel trade sadly.

Badedas - 'Things happen after a Badedas bath' - or at least they used to before I had kids!!

Reynolds 531 - on my Raleigh Royal touring bike circa 1986 - the ride, beauty and quality of paint on this 22 year old bike utterly destroys my newish £700 Scott MTB - oh boy did the English know how to build a bike.

So what favourites would you add to this list?

Two (I hope) in a bath - Oh, we used to dream of only two in the bath! Would ha' been a palace to us.

Once in a rare while* my parents would use Badedas in the bath and the whole family would be allowed (at varying stages of frigidity) to "take the waters". The cold, wet smell of Norwegian chestnut forests .... represented a childhood acme of sybaritic pleasure.

Later, as an independent adult, I bought an enormous drum of the stuff - t'was never the same.

* - "whether we needed it or not."

For me - my Leatherman Wave.
NOT a camp, stereotypical acknowledgement.

Not particularly a "love" but certainly a fascination that it came in a bottle:-

Unbelievably the PC morons have been there to it's labelled as just Coffee now!

Yes

Evidently the Officer being depicted was court marshelled for a homosexual act and some idiot complained about the word camp.

I'll nominate three things

A pair of old Sidi race-bike shoes. Like a blissfully fitted sock, yet stiff and strong, and seemingly resistant to wear and time. I bought a new pair for my MTB and they are just as lovely-but shinier!

My wife's Honda Jazz. Total reliability, functionally brilliant and simple design. Not a lust object but perfect for the intended purpose.

My first Swatch. Seemingly indestructible, smart and pleasingly minimal. All for about £15 some 10 years or so ago.

I have a Lamy rollerball pen which, when fitted with new refill, writes better than anything I have come across thus far - doesn't last very long though!

There's something about Leica 35mm rangefinder cameras and lenses which is slightly magical.

My car makes little logical sense, but a quick blast restores belief!

Swarfega is great, isn't it.

Another fan of Lamy pens. I have two of their 2000 model, both the fountain pen and the brilliant 4 colour ball point. Design from the 60s yet still seems modern. The ink bottle is even cleverer, with a dip at the bottom so that as it runs low it's still easy to fill the pen and an integrated blotting paper dispenser.

Bit of a love/hate relationship with my mac products (I would love my current macbook if apple would fix a bug, now 6 months old, that causes it to crash every time I insert a DVD!), but I love the software Omni Group makes and I do love my ipod.

Moleskine notebooks.

Chris - I take it that's pure badger? I actually think the Fusion is a pretty well engineered razor, and I would probably love it if I didn't think the blades were daylight robbery.

regards, Tam

P.s. Oh, and the various hi-fi stuff (as can be found in my profile) and he hear rumours about a company in Salisbury that does good work in this area, but can't for the life of me remember the name!

I'll confess, I haven't tried it, judging from the colour I wouldn't have thought it was altogether wise. Love Marmite though.

I realy enjoy my Pelikan m800 fountainpen. A joy to use and very nice to look at.

And we have two of these at home:

for the first time I "like" to vacume.

Almost forgot my ultimate favorite product:

Our Hästens bed.

I think thats it. Smile

L'Occitane shower gel. Bought it for my GF, but I'm now "addicted" to it. She's happy because it means I keep re-supplying (and she tells me I smell nice!).

I just noticed a tv ad for a product called 'Perspirex' which looks interesting and has the strapline, "Helps to reduce sweating and tackle odour".

Reducing sweating is good as I occasionally have an issue in that area. However, tackle odour, I think, is something I have have well under control and it would worry me slightly where the stuff has to be applied in order to effect the claims for it.

Just a thought.
