Linn Kans being considered:opinions please

Seasons greetings, Muchachos
Considering a second hand pair of Kans, for either TV rear speakers or as part of second system ( 62/140 ).
Which mark is best? Are the differences real? What sort of price should I be looking to pay, with / without stands.
Thanks in anticipation.

I've owned three pairs.
The early ones, (identifiable by sticky-out binding posts) were designed around vinyl and can be a bit bass light on CD, but still a fine marque.
Mid period ones are the best compromise. A fuller sound, but still with plenty of detail. (25-30,000?)
I had a pair of the last bi-wireable ones, which I found to be decidedly 'watered down' fat and bloaty (for a Kan).
I get the impression that they evolved to be less and less 'hairshirt' to become more 'acceptable' with inferior sources.

Mike,
thought you'd have got more of a reaction to your post but in any case here's my thoughts on the pros and cons....
Pros:
=====
Price
Size
Reputation (on this forum at least)
If you but them and don't like them then you'll probably get your money back.
Cons:
=====
Old design
Not everybody's cup of tea
Do need to be driven quite hard to perform well.
To summarize then, and speaking as a someone who's run Mark I Kans for the best part of twenty years, I don't think they're the best solution to your problem. Go for something more modern, more tollerant of sources and more efficient.
By the way I am a Kan fan and my pair have responded wonderfully to all the improvements I've made to my system.
Best of luck,
Calum

Hi,
YMMV, but: On the end of 62/140 with radio(can't explain) or good vinyl source, ok. CD - watch out, be prepared to buy a very nice cd player.
I use early Mark 1's, I would buy almost any Mk1 or Mk 2 without much concern, though I bought the early Mk 1's in direct dem with very late biwire Mk 2's. I use a Nait 2 with no complaints (had Naim separates and retreated, hence my feelings that a 62/140 will make a cheap cd player unlistenable).
You need very good source for Kans. Can't emphasize that enough.
I doubt Kans and tv will get on well together.
Cheers
John
