That is exactly what I would like to know!!
And if I may ask a second question in addition:
Would the upgrade from a Squeezebox Duet to a Linn Majik DS be a big step (plizzz, say no )

In my humble experience I was never happy with the Squeezebox connecting to different DACs, and I have used a few different DACs.
The Transporter however is a different animal.
YMMV etc.

I use my SB-Duett with the internal DAC of my SN, i like it very much, but i didnt compared it to the CDX2.I compared it to the CD5i and in my opinion the combination SN/SB was better than SN/CD5i.
My advice is to wait until you can buy the SB-Touch, because it should sound better than the much more expensive Transporter (said from Beta-testers in the Logitech-Forum) and second you dont need a computer,NAS etc to run it.
You can switch an ext. HD direct to the Touch and the Touch direct into your Amp.

In terms of electronic designs SB-Touch is WAY below TP in terms of bitstream quality.
In terms of implementation -- we shall see.
In terms of beta-testers opinions -- here is a excerpt from beta testers of Windows 95 : "Unlike it's predecessors Windows 95 features completely new kernel which allows absolutely stable operation" or "95 never falls down!".
Let's wait for device to show up and see what the end users say.

They are not on exactly your question but some posts will give you an idea about how good the DAC is with Squeezebox.

Now that is very interesting. Can you please direct me to where the beta testers have said this?

I'd wait at least until the touch to compare. An SB2 won't be there IMO. I think there's a bit too much 'better than' 'equal to' questions in general here, especially when comparing different formats. You really need to try these things for yourself and decide. Opinions here will vary quite a bit. Some decisions are usage driven and it's comforting to hear it's just as good. Others just like one thing better than another and don't care about format. Bring a SB2 to a Naim dealer if you need to and give a listen. I suspect most have both a CX2 and DAC on hand.

A direct link i cant give you.
I have read it in 2 forums.
a) in the german hifi-forum, there is a beta-teste.
b) in the

But i cant remember the threats, where i read it.
I found only this.

What do you mean? If you lower the volume, you have to truncate bits.
Its a feature.

I have not compared them, but those beta testers who have say that the
Touch is competitive. Since it is a lot less expensive, that may be good
enough for most folks.
The Touch does not have balanced outputs, which are handy if your amp
has balanced input.

I don't have a transporter but have done a comparison on someone elses system with a transporter. I actually preferred the Touch. Its definitely going to be a personal thing, some will think the Touch sounds better, some the Transporter.

I really like John Swenson's posts. Can measure the differences very clearly between connectors and DIG cables and does talk about how much better the DIG out will be on the touch compared to a SB3. Apparently he's done a lot of work to quiet the included switching supply at the touch end anyway. Mentions about how the extra PS load of headphones really pulls down overall performance, how much a linear ps improves the SB3 etc. Apparently the processor in the touch will be substantially more powerful than the TP as you'd expect after this much time so that along with a better than expected PS may help it vs a TP. Of course the coax out is RCA instead of BNC so who knows? We'll have to wait and see.
