Mackies

Heard some Mackie 824 monitors in a home recording studio at the weekend, was mightily impressed with the ruthlessly revealing sound, bass extension and grip, and surprisingly their midrange warmth. It was difficult to comment on PRaT because they were being used at the time for recording demo tracks. Has anyone ever plugged these into a Naim preamp?

.. but I must say I've been very impressed with the Mackie active monitors I've heard - sound a lot better IME than the Genelec and Harberth equivalents anyway.
They are good value at around £1K for two speakers, four amps and a pair of active crossovers as well...
Hmmmmm.

Nice speakers, but pretty Round Earth IMhO.
Don't forget that they are nearfield monitors, and don't work all that well in a living room environment. They need to be set up with a toe-in making that mystical triangle with the single listener.
They do have an authoritative sound and are great home studio monitors. I wish I could afford a pair for my meager studio and efforts.
I use a pair of Alesis Monitor One's driven with my 42.5/110. Very well-controlled sound.
My guess is that the Mackie amplification would fall way short of even the most modest Naim amplifier. Mackie, while a great pro sound company, doesn't take the same care in design and manufacture that we Naim-types expect.
Just my 2 cents worth, your mileage may vary.
