Who's the best: Gareth Gates or Will Young?

Hard to choose when they're both so original and talented. Jez Quigley; what do you think?

Garath has to be the more tallented singer, the Pop Idol vote was "arranged" shall we say!!

It will be interesting to see who will be arround in five years time, I believe both Garath and Darius will be, but Will will only be a short term hit,

Apparently the talented Gareth will only make number 5 or 6 in the charts this weekend. Surely this is a sign that he will go the way of Bewitched, Worlds Apart, EYC, Upside Down (Orange Orange), Hearsay, Northern Line, Martine McCutcheon, E-male, Five, Peter Andre, Hanson, Billie, Another Level, 911 etc etc etc very soon.

Andy Warhol was a short sighted bast*rd. 15 mins of fame was a bit on the optimistic side eh?.

Gareth is the new face of Shockwaves hair styling products. Oh how I wish it was "St-St-St-Studio Line".

Is that not like like asking which is best out a bang on the head with a hammer or a piece of 4mm brass tubeing with a suitable brass cap on each end.

They are equal. They are equally talentless. Manufactured for a brain washed audience. See whose talking about them in 5 years. That may give some idea of their worth.

Quote" when they are both so ORIGINAL? and TALENTED?" .............not either.

I am assuming this is a genuine thread as there where no smilies.

Its funny you know but I remember my grandad saying exactly the same thing, 'ah but will they be talking about them in 20 years'

For what its worth I don't think they are here to stay either, but then I thought the same about lots of stuff, including 'electronic' music.

Nothing would please me more than to berate the dying of popular guitar based music, and how I would *never* buy any of that crap computer music.

'I will only listen to music with real instruments!' I would declare.

Thank god I moved on.

But no I don't have either of the 'boys' albums.

If you have read the Robin Williams thread you will know that I am 60 years old, have a closed mind, and am only able to comment on obscure bands from yesteryear wink

I think it's harsh to say they are talentless. After all they did beat >10,000 other people in a comp. You have to say they have adequate singing voices.

I do find Gareth's voice lacking any sort of character or interest, Will's is somewhat better and given the right material could be OK.

The trouble with comps like this is that they force the singers to sing a variety of music so are likely to get technically proficient voices, but most people would prefer the less able but more characterful/distinctive voice (Liam Gallager, Rod Stewart, David Bowie etc). Having character and range is a lot rarer (George Micheal, Freddie Mercury, Ronan Keating!)

I partly agree with Greeny. Whilst the type of music they sing is not necessarily my cup of tea, they both have very good voices (IMHO).

I don't know whether either of them can play an instrument, or write a song, but even if they can't, it doesn't mean they don't have talent.

Some of the greatest names past and present can "only" sing.
