Nait 5i and CD5 compared to n-Vi

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any demo or actual experience of a Nait5i and CD5 (Or CD5i) against an n-Vi in terms of CD replay. I spoke to a dealer today regarding the n-Vi and he said that in his opinion it was better if not at least equal to a Nait5i/CD5 (No cap yet on the CD5...)

If I got an n-Vi then I was going to run it with my Nait5i and CD5 over unity gain once I combine my stereo and AV systems but would I just be wasting my Nait5i in this when the n-Vi can do the same job?

Thanks everyone!

I just bought a NVI and hooked to my nac112 and nap150 with cd5 and been running this for a month. For Music the cd5 is 20points better than NVI. My dealer programmed unity gain very easily and I am happy to use combination in one room

My n-vi runs unity gain into a HiCap'd 112x/150x combo.

For the few non-redbook cd's that my early Linn Mimik won't play I'm happy to use the n-Vi, but the rest I use the Mimik for.

I certainly don't think that a standalone n-Vi would beat a CD5(i)/Nait5i combo, but for double the outlay of an entry 2 channel system it is very good at music when allowing for the cost of the DVD playback, the surround processing, and the other 3 channel's of amplification.

If you want a system for not much more money than the cost of the n-Vi, why not trade in your Nait & run a 150x straight off the n-Vi for the front L&R channels, then run your CD5 into the n-Vi.

It makes a pretty good preamp until such time as you can later afford to pop a 122x or eqivalent into the system Winker

I never thought of that one...... you may have just started the path to future wallet injuries Winker

I'd have to demo though as some here say the 5i - 150x/122x jump is a big upgade, others say it's just an excude for another box - only my ears can decide I guess, any opinions on this everyone?

Thanks for the advice thus far, I did think that keeping the Nait5i and CD5 would be advantageous and I'd rather keep them as they have brought me such great music so far! - now i've got the 122x/150x idea in my head Smile
