Too Loud

Posted by: Bananahead on 03 September 2002

I have a problem that is a little annoying.

My 72 is too loud. When I use any of the normal inputs (Vinyl is alright) I can't have the volume control past about 10-15%. This makes fine adjustment very difficult. Does the 82 have this problem ?? Please say no so that I can justify the upgrade a little bit more.

Thanks

I think its perfectly normal for Naim pre's to be quite loud at 8 o'clock for straight CD input if you have sensitive speakers (89db/watt)and a small listening room.

The 82 250 Yamaha 1000M's in my 12 x13 main listening room hardly ever gets up to 9 o'clock with the CDX.

The little 72 140 Rega Ara's Linn Karik in the study hardly gets off the bump stop but I do listen in a very near field situation. Basically a great desktop computer audio system

The Ara's have really lovely treble by the way much better than an earlier Kef Q15

Hiya Eddie, good to see you here!

- nice one Ed, I'd forgotten about Finbar.

Doc's are of course flat-earth, in that hair-shirt sort of way (one must have flat wide feet to fit them naturally - I am stuck with atheletic liners to approach a good fit)... reminds me of Alexei Sayle's "Doctor Martens Boots" song...

Oh sorry, off thread again...
