Slipping into a 250

Posted by: Ed R on 18 September 2002

I've had a peek under the bonnet of all of my Naim boxes, just to make sure no-one's swapped the innards for a giggle. All, except the 20 which has lots of serious looking allen bolts on the underside.

Undoing them would obviously get me into the case but I have a horrid feeling that everything will fall off the chassis and I'll be left with a rather large and expensive rattle.

What's the story? Should I curb my curiosity (and the chances of me blowing myself up) or is there an easy way in?

Regards,
Ed.

IIRC the 2 (or 3?) allen screws hold the internal heatsinks to the outer case. You can remove these then unscrew the 4 screws in the the feet and slip the case off.

The only downside is that you might disturb some of the heatsink compound between the case and heatsink itself.

I don't think you'll do any harm but I'd leave it alone if I were you. (Says he who once took the case off his own 250).

If you want to open it just for curiosity, don't, look at the picture on the net.

If you still want to open it:
Hex bolts may be very difficult to unlock on chrome bumper cases, use the exact allen key (metric). If you can't at the first attempt, forget it.
Nothing will fall apart.
The facia is quite fragile, take extreme care when sliding the drawer. If you break it, you'll have to leave with it, they are no longer available.

Do you still want to open it?

The standard warning apply:
" there are no user servicable parts inside this unit, don't open this unit"
