The album Fires has a number of great tracks. Great voice and loads of heart and intelligence in the songs. It is getting loads of air time on my system. Very much recommended.

I am a little surprised that this one has escaped the forums attention.

If memory serves me I believe this was considered by the sunday times as one of the best albums of the year

Simon,

OK, OK, I'll go download a couple of iTunes. What would you suggest.

PS. Doing another Dan Mulhern gig on Sat. We're supporting Ruby Turner at the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford

Well done that man!

Try 'Damascus' and 'Sophia'. Both lovely songs, the latter having a heavy Joni Mitchell flavour (and when was that ever a bad thing?).

I will be interested in your opinions Phil

You can listen to quite a few of her songs on her website nerenapallot.com

Not my taste I'm afraid, I find it a bit bland (don't like Joni Mitchel either). Nevertheless, Simon, keep the recommendations coming, much appreciated. Still waiting for the vinyl version of the Flaming Lips album you recommended a couple of weeks ago.

Rgds,
Peter

Joni Mitchell is my idea of heaven (and has been for 28 odd years). I'll give it a whirl.

If anyone wants to listen to a few of her tracks on her Myspace minisite. Go here. I do recognise the single.

One of my recent favourites too. Hints of Kate Bush and Shawn Colvin on some tracks.

Fires is a good album, but try to get a listen to Nerina first album from 2001 "Dear Frustrated Superstar" even better IMHO. Alien is an especially good track.

First heard of her when she supported Missy Higgins on tour, both of whom are excellent live.

Did you have a listen in the end?

Simon,

Well I downloaded Fires from iTunes and I'm afraid I'm not entirely convinced. There's a couple of great tracks - as you say, Damascus and Sophia - but the rest kind of passed me by. Sorry. Will you still come to my gig?

P

PS. Can you drag any colleagues along?
