Machine Head - The Blackening
Lamb Of God - Sacrement
Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight

All great albums

I haven't heard a Linkin Park album since Hybrid Theory, although I have Meteora & Reanimation, which I thought fell short.
I love Papa Roach too. Infest is a killer album.

Nope I don't listen to that, but I do listen to this

My favourite metal band - I think.

Metal...
I´m not much into labelling music. To me it´s just music.

Just before dinner I´ve listened to TOOL´s Lateralus. Great album. So I´m into them.
I think they are something very special.

If you´ve missed out on Opeth, then try them asap. Try the Ghost Reveries.

Since Steven Wilson of Procupine tree worked closely with them he has single-handedly closed the gap between prog and 21st century metal accroding to their mutual record label, Road runner. What ever that means.

Agree. Opeth are something special.

Still listening to Tool I know I should like them but at the moment just not happening.

Porcupine Tree - Fear Of A Blank Planet

New Linkin Park very different from there other albums give it a try.

Linkin Park. I´ll have a listen to that one.

Tool are the saviours of heavy music and thankfully they don't play formuliac metal which many others do.

Exemplary musicianship coupled with a good understanding of arrangements and melody....something many metal bands think they can't have.

Opeth ar ealso good but not in the same league as far as developing feeling. If you like heavy music but something different then try Isis. Kind of post rock coupled with doom, but very very good.

ROTF, as we've spoke before about them i agree that Cathedral are a great band...the early stuff is without reproach.

Although they aren't really 'metal' now, Metallica are still the best metal band on the planet.

Master of Puppets has to be *the* best all out metal album of all time- absolutely nothing is wrong with it and it gets itself into quite a few 'top 100' music lists you wouldn't expect it to.

Roll on July 8th.... Metallica playing the new Wembley stadium Cool

have to agree I never really label music in such distinct genres.

The new Linkin album is rather different though and oddly I find myself liking the more ballad (labelling again) type songs on this album..

I do wonder though reading the sleeve notes if this difficult album is a bit of a mish mash of decisions that don't fit together, and the essays and track notes are there too soften the blow Smile

Another vote for Linkin Park's new album. Liking it better every time I spin it.

And yes, nothing beats metal from the '80's...

There was a lot of decent metal bands around in the 80's especially from UK but recently it has become a very generic sounding genre.

In my opinion at the moment there are only a few really great metal bands.....System of a Down, and the aforementioned Tool being the best imho.

If you look into the doom and post rock scene there are quite a few heavy bands who coul dbe classed as metal but i think they extend beyond that label.....Isis, Pelican Neurosis being some of the best. This music can be bone crunchingly heavy but at other times very beautiful and fragile sounding. Atmosphere is definitely a pre-requisite. A very interesting and vibrant scene at the moment, although it can get a bit samey.

I´ll check out Isis. Might be something for me as it looks.
Regarding TOOL, 10000 days is one of the last year´s best albums, whatever genre, imho.

Gunnar,
Isis are amazing....the last 2 records especially- Panopticon and In the Abscence of Truth. Hoping to se them in London in July.

I agree with you on Tool, although I have to say that I prefer lateralus to 10000 days. The shows weren't too shabby either Big Grin

I hope you got to see them....they really are special.

Thanks!
I´ve put them on my shoping list. I´m very curios about this band.

Would indeed be nice if Tool got around doing a gig here in Stockolm. Not surprised at all that you´ve enjoyed them Big Grin

Hope you catch the July gig with Isis.

I am not a fan of 'Metal' and have always disliked the term when referenced to 70's rock bands that I like. Led Zeppelin, Rush etc.

However, when I recently came across a 'Metal' band who list their influences as: Led Zeppelin, Rush, Pink Floyd, Yes and Genesis, I became quite intrigued.
They released their debut album in 1989, a decade when IMO rock music died.
They were the opening act for the Yes 30th Anniversary Tour in the USA.

Check out Dream Theater
Awake (1994)
Octavarium (2005)

if you want a real head working, then get anything by 65 days of static......again within the metal/post rock genre but very original and bloody amazing.
