unbalanced CD5.....
Posted by: silklee on 26 June 2002
i realised that all the 4 'legs' of my CD5 does not come into contact with my rack's surface.
i used to have 3 DH cones under my cdp so it was not a problem then. but i have since removed them as i didnt like the effect it had on the music.
should i be concerned and try to 'balance' the cd5 such that all 4 legs is in contact with my rack surface. if so, any suggestions?
or should i just leave it as it is.

Hi silklee
your CD5 player should be resting on all four of it's special compliant feet.
Take it to your local dealer and have him check it out.
Hi Bob,
you can obtaine a schim kit from your local Naim dealer which will cure your problem.
All you have to do is remove the foot which is not meeting the shelf and place a schim in between the foot and the schassis, this reduces the gap making it stable.

Hi Silk,
You can get some cheap washers from a hardware store, unscrew and insert it in the shorter leg. That should fix it.

that Naim will 'shim' the players with metal feet if necessary.
Don't know about the CD5 though.
If you want a quick fix; use a big blob of blu-tack and squash it down.

Most people listen to $200 cd players. Most people drive $15,000 cars.
If a $200 cd player is a VW Golf, a $2200 cd5 is a Porsche 911 Turbo (relatively speaking).
If the tailpipe on your 911 started to droop, would you not be HORRORIFIED to find that Porsche's solution is to rig it with a coathanger.
For god's sake, this is a $2200 cd player people. There is no escuse for this (unless your table is warped--that's possible too).
Don't get me started on the cds2.

Silklee, it's most likely your floor isn't level. Try balancing the shelf (with a spirit level). We Particular or Mana rack users always do this as part of setup ... also vinyl guys ...

Levellng the shelf won't fix this particular problem. The player will only lean with the shelf, or not if it is level.
I used a combination of 2p and penny pieces to level the three feet of my P25 - note that three feet will always touch the shelf, unlike four!
The player will have to go back to your Naim dealer just like my CDX with its sagging drawer...
I tried to adjust the Allen bolt(s) underneath the player towards the front (as advise by Doug Graham) but the drawer stop doesn't move.
Regards,
Steve.

Steven's right ... what I meant was balance the shelf, then the table, then balance again after it settles down ...
