My favourites include "Grotesque", "Slates" and "Hex Enduction Hour", all from the early-mid 80s. But they are an extraordinary band and have produced great work throughout their long career. One of the most important rock bands ever, in my opinion.

Ah yes, good call Mark - I forgot about that compilation. It's excellent, cheap and covers most of the band's career - go for it Dean!!

No Ivor, you are not. The man is a genius.

Their recent releases are as accessible as anything they have released over the years. For those who are interested you could do a lot worse than check out and the magnificent IMHO

I have about a dozen of their albums-- which means there's at least a dozen I don't have and haven't yet heard-- a very prolific band is The Fall...

At any rate, two of my favorites so far are

Perverted By Language (where I believe Brix makes her first appearance)

and

Live At The Witch Trials

Dean..

OK, maybe this will help:

Best Fall Album

It's a poll on the forum at the best Fall site on the Web. Hex Enduction Hour comes out on top.

My personal favourite, possibly because it was the first one of theirs' I bought but also because it contains some great songs, is "Slates". Just did a quick search to find it was released (on 10" vinyl) in April 1981 - so I bought it while I was still 13, lol. I guess we didn't have satellite TV and computer games back then...............

Hey, I have thirty-one Fall albums, all on vinyl! I have a weird sort of preference for Room to Live, which generally is not considered to their best effort. OK, 'Hex' and Grotesque are also very nice. I've got the original 33/45 'In a Hole', recorded in Auckland in 1982.

yeah and they are still coming out on LP..my most precious item though is victoria ,in a box with the plastic (medal) badge...worth nowt but a true piece of memorabilia.!

OK Guys

Hex Enduction Hour & Fall Heads Roll with be added to the "to get list" Smile

Ivor if you like complete twists in style try the Von Sudenfed album.

I have got it Dean and like it a lot but do be prepared for a different style of madness from the fall. try 'reformation tlc ' aswell.
just for interest.....The fall has consisted of over 50 musicians in the last 30 years, mainly because Mark Edward ( E ) Smith falls out with them , or vica versa. when asked who are the Fall ? by a journalist he replied " LISTEN PAL ,IF ITS ME ON STAGE WITH YOUR GRANNY ON A WASHBOARD, ITS A FALL GIG " - priceless eh?

I saw the Fall at the Riverside in Newcastle in the 90's, they were proper Champion. Always keep an eye on Mark E's interesting career. He is a character and a half. Clearly one of England's greatest eccentrics.

Strangely he hasn't had an album titled Curmudgeonly

Perverted by language is the only LP I own.
