Hello,

Just got a hicap to go with my 72/140. Could somebody tell me the correct way to set it up?

Cheers

Roach,

Take care. I think some of the earlier Hicaps were different from the later ones. This post assumes yours has 4 sockets and that Sockets 1,2 and 3 are identical 4 pin sockets. Socket 4 is a 5 pin socket.

The hicap sits between the 72 and the 140

A 5 pin Din to 5 pin Din (Snaic) is used to connect the 72 to the hicap.
A 4 pin Din to 4 pin Din is used to connect the hicap to the 140. (on bigger power amps such as the 250, the power amp end of the 4 pin connection is an XLR plug)

The back of the 72 should have a 5 pin Din output socket marked "to socket 4 on hicap" (or some similar words). Socket 4 on the hicap is the one with 5 pins. Use the 5 pin snaic to connect the 72 to the hicap. The marked end of the snaic goes to the 72.

Sockets 1,2 and 3 on the hicap are identical and any one can be used to connect to the 140. Use the 4 pin Din to 4 pin Din. The marked end should go to the hicap.

If your sockets are different, post the details before proceeding.

Cheers

If the Hicap is a silver bumper model, read the instructions at the back, particularly the pin description on socket 3. If this socket drawing has a +24v or +Ve pin, don't use it, use socket 2 instead.

Manu,

Thank you for your info. I check my hi-cap. Socket 3 do mark +ve on the pin which suppose to be not connect. I do a little bit more research. Not only the silver bumper version has that type of socket 3, some olive green face Hi-cap also has similar socket arrangement. I believe it is use for older amps such as 32 or equipment which only need single 24V rail.

Read the label on the back of your hi-cap before you connect it; otherwise you may connect a 24v back to your power amp.
