Jean-Christophe,
Unless a Forum member is going on holiday and would appreciate a house-sitter (probably the best solution!), you could try something like this, which is a pretty reliable 'holiday cottage' website http://www.cottageguide.co.uk/

The 'south of England' is a pretty big place, do you have any firmer ideas - so that members can fight it out promoting their own areas! (Personally, I don't think you could do much better than the Suffolk coast - Southwold, Aldeburgh, Blythburgh, Orford.)

Hope you find something,
James

James - you have declared war

Come to Portsmouth, lots of associations with France, a hinterland of beautiful countryside, pretty pubs selling local beer and good food. Interesting cathedrals in Chichester and Winchester etc etc.

A quick Google has given me

the previous one has some lets in the internationally famous town of Emsworth <g>
as well as Hayling Island - the UK equivalent of Florida but without the theme parks, hurricanes, big wide roads and the intense sun (however today it will be really warm)

Good luck

Derek & James,
many thanks for the links.
I'd have a slight preference for south west (I'd like to visit Bath, the dartmoor & ... salisbury) but am open to other parts of the south.
I'm afraid I'm a bit too late to find out a forum member who'd be in need of a house-sitter, though I'm confident it would have been the best solution.
Hope I will find something.
Thanks again
Jean-Christophe

Doh! Jean-Christophe, sorry it should have occured to me that you would, of course, want to visit Salisbury!

I think Wiltshire is delightful and a very good choice for a holiday (particularly the combination of Wiltshire and the Dorset coast).

You should be able to find accomodation options in the links Derek and I have posted.

Enjoy,
James

Don't know whether you've the chance to do so before or not, but don't forget to sample some of the great British 'real ales' while you're over (clue - in the area you will be visiting, these will always be from hand-pulled pumps.)
