I am looking for some advice on my upgrade options and the benefits I can expect.
My current system is as follows: - CD3.5/Flatcap, NAC62/NAP140, Celestion A2’s.
My dealer has suggested the following upgrades: -
1. HiCap for NAC62
2. Second NAP140 to Bi Amp (I think this is the correct terminology)
3. Or Trade in existing NAP140 for a NAP250
4. Upgrade CD Player
Some of the upgrades will be in the distant future as and when I can afford it with the possible exception of the HiCap. Can I expect much improvement in my system just by adding a HiCap ?
Does the NAP250 require a HiCap to work?
I am new to this forum and would appreciate any advice that members can provide.
Many thanks
Mark

Yep an improvement in the pre to a 72 would be beneficial AND adding the hicap. Buy whichever you can find at good S/H prices. Then power amp can wait

Yes, the 250 cannot provide power to preamps; a separate PSU is required.
Source first ideology says to upgarde your source first; however, the first thing I would do is to get a hicap for the 62.
The hicap will provide more extension at the frequency extremes, but more important, it will also smooth out someof the digititis that's eveiden even in the CDX. The sound will be much less congested. They're also cheap second hand.

The Hicap will make the sound a)much more detailed and clear, less fuzzy b)less harsh AND more extended in treble c)solid bass will extend an octave lower d)sound will be much more palpable and visceral.
After that, the 72 will be a bit of an upgrade at a small price. You should then demo pre vs. power upgrades. But for sure skip the biamped 140s which will waste money on an extra snaic and extra NAC A5, add a bit of power but a lot of aural discombobularity, while a 250 will add performance without negative side-effects.

I'd upgrade the 62...as suggested a 72 (cos it'll look nice with a 140) or a 102. The rest is good enough I would have thought, though a meatier power amp would be good for the Celestions. I still think that the pre amp would be best changed first then a 180/250 or maybe a HiCap - your choice after a dem...
