RIP Keith Floyd

Posted by: Kevin-W on 15 September 2009

Died earlier this morning. By far and away the best of all the TV chefs IMO, hugely influential too.

Coincidentally, he was on TV last night, and looked terrible. All that boozing and smoking made him look about 20 years older than he ctually was.

We won't see his like again, unfortunately. All we have now is Sweary Gord and fat-tongued mockney wanker Jamie.

Agreed, he was a bit of a one off, always enjoyable to watch. Inspired my cooking style, i.e. glass of wine in hand. Hugely enthusiastic, and always made you feel you could cook his meals, unlike Heston.

R.I.P.

Same here Kevin - he was an inspiration to watch and hugely motivated me to get cooking as a youngster. His style showed that recipes and measures are for wimps, that cooking is from the heart and doesn't have to be an exact science.

I also saw Keith Allen's interview of Keith Floyd last night, which in the end was really sad - but glad to see he still had that same sparkle.

One of the very few(2) TV chefs I could watch without throwing things at the TV.

R.I.P. Keith.

I saw the Keith meets Keith documentary on C4 last night.
I thought it was a fine piece of work, & thank goodness Mr. Allen made it before Mr. Floyd's premature demise.
KF was the rarest of creatures - a real person on the small screen.
His death is very sad news.

I can't believe he was only 65 having watched last night's programme.

Apparently he died of a heart attack after a massive feast.

It's probably the way he'd have wanted to go. Still sad though. Apparently he'd also been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

I always enjoy watching vintage Floyd clips that are often shown during editions of 'Saturday Kitchen'. What a character - sorely missed by many, no doubt.

Larger than life character. Inspirational artist of his craft. Sad day.

I heard a story of him being asked to review some airline foods for breakfast, or daytime TV.

Each meal was served anonymously, together with the wine option. He came to one meal, and asked where the wine was, they said it came without wine. He asked what the airline was, but the presenters refused to say, so Floyd refused to try the meal unless he knew why there was no wine.

The presenter then admitted it was one of the Arabic airlines that did not have alcohol for religious reasons. He scowled, took and glass of wine from one of the other meals, and proceeded to try the food.

I don't think he will ever have flown with that airline.

He was a great presenter, such enthusiasm, and he influenced my cooking, but thankfully not my drinking. Sad he has gone, but perhaps not a surprise.
