Royd Emergency

Posted by: i am simon 2 on 17 March 2003

The Minstrels arrived, but the mids have been replaced with somthing that looks like a substandard bodge.

Does anyone happen to have some Minstrel Mids in good condition going cheap (perhaps after some sort of upgrade?)

Any help would be appreciated.

Unless somone can tell me that these drivers (paper cone with another cone attached to the voice coil) are a supperior upgrade.

Otherwise they will have to go back to the seller.

Hi,
Are these the black ones that recently sold on epay?
I remember seeing a pair that had different looking bass drivers.
Doesn't look good to me.I would ask the seller for a full refund.Sorry not to be of any more help!

Cheers,
Paul.

Complete botch

Has someone botched up a pair of Minstrels then? How bizarre! Is this the way to sell speakers that have blown up in your lounge?

I had a pair of Minstrels which I'm about to sell to a friend. However, if you require any visual reference in the next couple of weeks give me a shout and I'll describe in any detail what I have here. And they sound bloody good too which is always a sign that the drivers are original!

!!! There's always money somewhere for the next upgrade... !!!

Whizzer Cone

Sounds like you have a cheapo set of "Full Range" replacement drivers. The small inner paper cone may be what's known as a whizzer cone, and its purpose is to give a bit more high frequency extension that the large driver would normally be capable of. These types of drivers were usually found in factory style car radios a few years ago. I have seen them in home speakers but only the no-name type that seem to be made out of a material closer to cardboard than wood.

What does the vendor have to say?

I would give Joe a ring in any event.

Good luck,

regards,

michael

They are packed up ready to go back

The seller immediately agreed to a refund, so no problems there, he is off to find the guy that sold them to him and do unmentionable things.

Now what shall I do with the money instead....
