HDX not finding all artwork
Posted by: dave marshall on 09 August 2010
Hi,
I've only just got my HDX up and running, but am having a problem in so far as it has failed to find and download the album artwork for several albums ripped.
The albums in question were fine when ripping them via i-tunes for loading onto my i-pod, so I'm not clear why the HDX should be having this problem..............it's finding the album title and track listings without difficulty.
It's hooked up to the internet via my router, though not yet connected to my laptop.
Any ideas chaps?
Regards,
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Just to be sure: have you checked the System Status menu? You should find that Internet Accessible = True...
If it isn't, the HDX will only search through a small local database without cover art. You could also have a look at the albums at
www.almusic.com to see if there is any cover art available for the albums in question.
Hope this helps...
Regards,
Michel

...and it is easy to load up an image via the latest version of DTC. Click album properties and then 'upload cover art'.
I find it does not always load up album covers on very new releases. I presume the database gets track info straightaway but not always the cover art.

As above. I'm on a rate of about 20% for incorrect or absent album covers. The DTC makes it a snap to fix. I run Music Collector software and most of the covers I need to add or change reside within the database of this application. Dead easy.

I'm very happy with the 1.5a software update!

You can try to "update database" first for those missing cover art and it will rescan the AMG database. If not find a jpeg file of that album either through AMG if it exists there or another website and then follow the above instructions using properties in the DTC.
You may have to download the jpeg file to your pc first and then add it via the DTC.
It's very easy.

I bought that a year or so ago in an attempt to update my album list on a Excel spreadsheet.
I used it once or twice, but couldn't really get along with it? Do you like it? Should I revisit?
It just seemed really cheap and didn't find a ton of my albums.

It found about 75% of mine. My nerdish tendencies mean that I actually enjoy putting albums in from scratch (if I have to) and finding exactly the right cover for the edition(s) in my collection. this therapeutic investment in time has made adding covers in the DTC a breeze and on the odd occasion when the HDX gives me a nonsense result for the Artist or Title, I've got it all stored and checked already. It's more fun than watching the telly or other mundane (to me) pass times.
The Movie Collector software is weaker but has recently been revised and now makes on the fly editing easier, particularly finding cover art. Music Collector will follow this trend. they got into a tizz with Amazon last year which put a big crimp in searching capabilities. That is resolved now. TBH I think there are plenty of alternatives - I just landed on this one and liked it enough to stick with it.
