CDX (alone, no XPS) vs. CD5 with Flatcap2

Any suggestions...???

I'm considering a a used CDX (alone, no XPS) for about $2250 vs. a used CD5 with Flatcap2 for about $1700? I know that there's a price difference between the two choices, but how would they compare? Would the CDX be worth the extra $$$ ?

Has anybody auditioned these two set-ups?

Thanx,

If it matches your budget, get the CDX. The first thing that I noticed when I moved from the CD5/Flatcap2 to the CDX was improved detail and bass weight. As I listened to more disks and as the player warmed up, I became aware of just how much more musical this player is. The music sounds more real. I think that it was Michael Fremer who refered to the CDX as ruthlessly revealing. I think that it is certianly revealing of poor recordings but it also manages to reveal more of the music that is on those same disks.

You also have an upgrade path with the CDX. I have learned to never say never on that score!

Good Luck!

I agree whole heartedly with David. I have had a CD5 with a FCap2 then a HiCap before aquiring a CDX. Its definately in a higher league, a whole new ball game or any other cliche you can think of !!

Cheers

Hi guys... thanks for the replys.

I had the opportunity to hear the CD5 (alone, no Flatcap2) and a CDX (alone, no XPS) today. I'm sure adding the Flatcap2 to the CD5 would help close the gap, but the CDX certainly had a lot more happenin' musically. The CD5 seemed to have the top end & vocals covered with the rest being more or less background music. The CDX had the whole spectrum of music covered. It seemed to tie everything together better. It had more layers and depth.

I think I need a second job $$$ now! Wink
