Nytech receiver

Not Naim I know, but I have in a cupboard somewhere a non-working "Nytech Audio CTA 252 XD Series D".

It is a rather cool-in-a-70s-sort-of–way bit of kit . It looks like an oversize, desktop calculator with all the controls and, I think, analogue level meters on the slopeing top panel. Slider volume controls! Push button tuner presets!

According to the flat-earth oracle; "The 252 receiver is a true flat earth classic, and was a very good performer for its price. It cost a little more than a Nait 1, though had the tuner so was similar value. The power output was 25 watts, so it had a little more kick than the Nait…….."

What I'd really like to know is whether anyone knows anything more about Nytech 252s and, even more important, whether there is anyone out there who might be able to repair the thing.

Hi Fi World did an article a few months ago. This may be online - try their site

www.hi-fiworld.co.uk

It is very good, and I expect rewiring mains and using decent cables would be good for it.

PS Actually the HFW site doesn't seem to hold archive articles. I'll see if I can find it.

My first ever proper amp was a Nytech (CA202 I think).

I rebuilt both PA modules in mine, and even drew a circuit diagram, I'm not sure how the 252 differs. Mine was a single supply, and was therefore AC coupled at the speakers, the better amps had dual supplies.

The audio circuitry was fairly simple, although there was a fair bit of wiring internally, between front panel, PA modules, and rear panel.

I've never seen a receiver version though, I guess it's going to be a little busier internally!

Most engineers would make sense of it fairly easily, although I suspect it may sound a little dated now. Shouldn't cost much though if you find a friendly techy with and audio interest, most of the parts were fairly standard components.
