Have you got a clear sky tonight - Perseid meteor shower.

Folks,
it's mingin where we are, overcast with frequent showers, but if you have clear sky where you are - check out the sky tonight!!
Annual Perseid meteor shower peaks in the early hours of tomorrow morning, but there should be a decent show all night, if you can see them!!
I'm gutted......
Cheers,
Ali

Looks promising here in Nottingham (apart from light pollution of course). Might try a bit of astro-photography if I can stay awake.

It's a really good shower if you can see it - I once witnessed it in the middle of the North Sea on a cloudless night (on a jack up drilling gas wells in the Vulcan field 20 odd years ago) twas a sight to behold indeed.

Well, it was all looking so promising.....
We were having a bbq for my sister-in-law today (rain or shine) and it actually brightened up in the afternoon, we got some sunshine and clear sky!!
It's now drizzling and overcast........I'm off to bed rather disappointed.....
Hope you have better weather where you are and you managed to catch some of the shower - let me know......
Cheers,
Ali

At around midnight I saw one, and that was just a little tiddler - very disappointing.
I often see more than that on a normal night.
It wasn't very dark mind you which didn't help.

It was a clear sky in Brighton - couldn't be better, but I had just got in after a very full day, so I just had to go to bed - but I saw one!!! Just the one. I saw it low in the north.

Watched it last night out on a lake near Dalyan in Turkey and later from the pool at the villa. Light pollution is minimal out here. Not as spectacular as previous years but a very pleasant way to spend an evening with a full stomach and a chilled glass of rose.

Chaps
Mrs Mick and I walked into the back garden around 10.30pm last night armed with a very large gin and tonic each and a pair of binoculars.
We saw about 7 or 8 shooting stars and when our necks started to ache by the constant looking up and the gin took effect, we retired to bed, happy with what we saw.
I awoke at around 2am and decided to have another gawp by myself as Mrs Mick was deep in sleep.
I poured myself a large whisky and laid myself out on a teak steamer so as I was looking up to the heavens. I sloshed the whisky back and fell asleep and woke up around six.
I now feel totally shattered and will never do that again.

Classic Parry. Good one, Mick!
Erm, we gave it about five minutes, and gave up.

We actually saw more on the Saturday evening than we did on the Sunday.
Mick, done with style and panache as per usual
Hope you had more than a pair of boxers on!

Was in Finland in the middle of the forest for the last 10 days and saw a few each night around the peak. Still a bit of natural light pollution up there though at this time of year.
