Ian Carr RIP

Veteran UK jazz/fusion trumpeter Ian Carr has died after a long series of illnesses apparently.

Those of you who remember Colosseum (and the US equivalents - BS&T etc I suppose) will recall that Nucleus were in the same sort of category in 1970-71. When I finally got my hands on 2 or 3 of their Vertigo LPs in the 80s I was astonished, not only by the quality of music composition and ensemble playing for the day, but chiefly by the sound quality (well, this is a hifi site) - I've not heard much else to match the realism of the acoustic instruments reproduced on those Vertigo pressings.

Ian Carr also did some superb BBC jazz programmes in the 80s/90s before his illness.

Another sad piece of news - a fine musician is no longer with us. The elpee I know best with Ian on it is the very fine We'll Talk about It Later - highly listenable and thoroughly recommended.

RIP Ian.
