Roast Potatos:

How come they're not classed as junk food then, but chips are?

Fritz Von My local Turkish Pizza & Kebab Chappie uses fresh salad and home made dough all the time, fresh cheese, salami, rhubarb, ham, seafood, etc, Why is it Junk Nosh then?

I think it is great news that West Ham have come out of this with investors who care about football - all I heard about their plans on the news sounded very positive: especially about funds to encourage the development of young players.

You also have a top class centre forward on the way back, so things are really looking up.

Very good Son, I call it making them respectable by continuing an old tradition that was always there*

Guy,
Thank you for your post - it's good to have something about roast potatoes on a thread called 'roast potatoes'.

Rest assured - goose fat is, in fact, (ironically / paradoxically) quite a health food really - better for you than roast potatoes done in the green elixir, olive oil. (And you can also rub it on yor chest as an anti-cold remedy - but wait for it to cool from cooking the potatoes!! Winker)

I think the other reason why roast potatoes are not as bad for you as some people think is the volume-to-surface ratio. Compared with a chip, a roast potato has a high volume to surface ratio, so only a relatively small amount of the potato is exposed to the oil.

(Actually neither are chips that bad for you if of the right size, 'chunky', and cooked correctly in the right temperature of oil, so that the outside seals immediately so the potatoes doesn't soak up oil; part fry then remove from oil and dry; then fry again to finish up the crisping.)

The best roast potatoes I have ever known are those cooked by my wife (an occasional treat) - delicious - crunchy outside, fluffy inside (King Edward's). Yum.

As mentioned recently for those other than Our Mick who cared to read it, I'm currently in the process of going into private insolvency -bankruptcy but wont bore you with any more of that old tosh. What I did find very interesting last night though whilst listening to my most favouritest phone in show on good old short wave radio was the British version of what I'm doing. The law I'm making use of here (is very new) and will soon be changed again as all parties political find the time period of 6 years far too low. So when I hear that in UK it's circa 3 years or less, and consider the mega personal debt of the majority of the population I was surprised indeed, Oh Yes!

Fritz Von Trebles all round then Chaps as they smugly grinned all the way to the bank with interest*

Oh Yes!

P.S. If I were a member of one the opposition parties at PMQ's I'd be in two minds wether to ask Poodle anything at all at all to be honest. Today's performance yet again highlighting his arrogance and answering questions with repetitive soundbite-esque spun statements and at one point curtly saying I'm right and you're wrong end of discusson.*

Marvellous: I cannie wait for Reid to get hold of you lot I can tell yee*

Another related matter, there is a horrendous junction by the railway station at Oxford. This is controlled by multiple sets of lights and traffic backs up in all directions. It has always been believed somewaht cynically that this junction was designed to to hold up the traffic and deter car uers from the City centre.

A few weeks ago at peak time on a Friday, there was a power outage, all the traffic lights went out for a number of hours. Guess what? The traffic flowed freely, the normal taibacks disappeared, drivers were cautious and gave way as appropriate. This was a big enough event to hit the Oxford times. Oxford City Council were of course denying the improvement and implicating an unusually low level of traffic county wide...

When one considers the e-mail traffic that's monitored and stored in UK & Europe, it's amazing one doesn't get more problems really innit?

Fritz Von Before I began my last job in January of this year I hardly got any spam at all at all, then miraculously it all started piling in after my first pay cheque? This co-incidence could only have happenned via my bank, new employer or tax office* Now amazingly enough I'm back to the old rate again, how strange, good old data protection eh Chaps?

P.S. I do no internet transactions whatso'ever, my last employer & tax Office are both govt (in other words absolute no no) so it must have been my bank (which also promises confidentiality to it's er, customers).

N.B. The only other possible culprit I can think of would be my medical insurer, who would notice the difference between when I'm working and on the dole.

If I recall offhand Our Acad the US has in total some 9, er, so-called intelligence agencies all vying with each other for public funds. I note the one year abstinence of illegal drugs bit, with Bush it was 3 years if I remember correctly, when put to task he always answered "I've fullfilled all the required pre-conditions to become President of the United States" innit.

N.B. Regarding the "What did it cost thread". I think the original question has been taken out of context (the original questioner only mentions his side of the story, and one can only imagine what certain individuals in certain situations will do, everybody naturally is different*, no humour has arisen from it at any rate as far as I can ascertain!

I read it in the Daily Mail (Record Profits just announced too Chaps well done).
