The 15 records to bring along with you on a desert island

Posted by: andrea on 11 November 2007

Hallo everybody.
I’d like starting this new topic, seemingly wider than the (very interesting) “Outstanding live albums” already proposed . . .. . . .
I hope to get some other good advise from it.
Please notice that it is about records you couldn’t do without, and records you’ll never get tired of . . .
(and assumed that on a desert island there would be mains, dust free environment, and all is needed to set up properly an hi-end hi-fi system . . . . . mainly vinyl based . . . Big Grin )

My choice would be, not in order of importance:
1. Beethoven “Violin concerto” (David Oistrakh and Cluytens – His Master’s Voice, Mono)
2. Zap Mama (the first album - cd)
3. Monty Alexander Trio at Montreaux Jazz Festival (live album)
4. Clapton “Was Here” (live album)
5. Ry Cooder “Show Time” (live album))
6. Ernestine Anderson “When the sun goes down”
7. Clapton “From the Cradle”
8. Dylan “Pat Garret & Billy the Kid”
9. Tchaikovsky “Violin concerto” (Perlman and Leinsdorf - cd)
10. Stones “Exile on main street”
11. Dollar Brand “African Horns” (cd)
12. Zappa “Sheik Yerbuti”
13. Springsteen “The River”
14. Beatles “A compilation made by myself” (cd)
15. Ustad Vilayat Khan “The Brilliance of Sound”

They are all vinyl, except when otherwise stated.

OK - as always I assume the complete works of Half Man, Half Biscuit are available to me - if not just see http://cobweb.businesscollaborator.com/hmhb/records/index.htm for a list of what I'd take.

Otherwise I'd take

and some others .......

There's quite a few desert island threads .... the thought of being stuck on one is something that doesn't really appeal - I mean how would I get Basia Bulat's next album when it hits the shops ...
