Miss S (8) has just been told she can have flute lessons at school. She needs an instrument to practice on.
Can anyone recommend
a) a good flute for a young beginner
b) some good ear defenders for the rest of the family?

I often wonder who it is that decides what instruments children should learn and play. I have always thought that they would be far more interested if they were offered electric guitar, keyboard, bass guitar or drums. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's like offering them a course on gardening as a treat.
If anyone mentions Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull, then I'll scream. It's 2008.
I shall continue to send my children to piano and guitar lessons.

Go for the Yamaha that is in your budget and you won't go wrong.
