Dear all!
I've heard about some releases by JVC on this format and i'm wondering if it's suitable on a normal cd player like CD5X.
These cds are very pricey but have a very high quality sound.

Yes, they are designed for regular cd players actually. IMHO, they typically sound awesome.

Yeah, the only problem I have with them is digging into my pocket book a little further, but soon get over that when I get it home and listen to it.

Thanks a lot again!
Yes!
They're quite pricey, but the effect disappear when you push "play", i guess.

Another pathetic failed attempt by the purveyors of drink coasters to catch up to vinyl.
I do own one of these, an XRCD2 actually, Autumn in Seattle by the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto trio and it is quite good. Don't know if it's representative of the breed though.

The Bill Evans Trio "Sunday at the Village Vangaurd" is excellent and has some great alternate takes as well.

XRCDs are just excellent.
Makes you wonder about what's the fuss over the SACD.
It is hard to get a hold of some of the titles here in the US and they have few odd contents ( Jazz @ Pawnshop et all ), but their classic jazz releases are worthwhile investment.

There was an offhand comment in The Absolute Sound recently that seemed to indicate that the reviewer thought the same thing, and he was not particularly enamored with XRCDs in general. That, however, runs counter to my experience with 15 or so classical and jazz XRCDs, which is that I think they sound quite good.

I've got 10 of them and I think they do sound excellent. I found them in a store in Palo Alto a few years back and have never regretted the outlay. They also took me to music that I would otherwise not have ventured to try so that was an added bonus.
