Attempted Suicide Incident

Was this DJ right to not only air Van Halen's Jump while this woman was on the edge of a bridge while police tried to talk her down but then to subsequently defend his actions?
Personally I think the guy should be fired and I am far from a politically correctness/nanny state type of individual.

Trouble is he owns the radio station so I suppose he can do pretty much what he wants

I read it and thought exactly as you did Jim. Thanks for mentioning it though. I don't feel so wimpy / out of touch / soft for having these feelings - at least I am not alone.
It is a funny old world...

DJ's are there to entertain. Entertain people with good taste, decency as well as a$$holes like the one who requested 'Jump' assuming that they knew that a woman was on the bridge.
I'm pretty sure, John Peel wouldn't have played it, and would have chastised the fool who requested it.
I've had to accept that I share this planet with plenty of jerks P, R, I, C, K, S - jerks ...

Well, if you think of the chaos it creates on the roads in the rush hour when people are trying to get home from a hard days work?
I for one would encourage them to jump, so they can get shoveled up quickly so people can get home.
This has happened in Portsmouth a few times and it is infuriating, especially when you've had a long hard day being stuck in traffic for hours on end !!!
Why can't they do it on their own without involving the public and trying to make their lives miserable.
I have no time for suicides, it's a cop out, Sorry.

Stu,
I have. My uncle threw himself off a towerblock, killed himself stone dead. I felt sorry so for him and it was so sad, there was nothing anyone could of done to help him.
Mental illness does run in our family...I've been there i can assure you.
It's the ones that never do it and just want some attention and pick a busy main road in rush hour and play on it that annoys me. This is often the case in my experience.

Stephen
I guessed there would be various views. I totally disagree with yours. Heaven forbid that some disturbed woman could even think about jumping during a busy time on the roads. How thoughtless of her.
However, I posted this as I thought the DJ was well over the line and not to discuss mental illness or the motorists who had to wait a while this drama played out.
You are on the side of the DJ so fair enough. Pretty heartless IMO but fair enough.
Cheers

Jim,
I don't wish harm on anyone and it's great to hear that the woman is ok and is now hopefully getting the help she really needs.
I can't really see why the DJ should be sacked and i do tend to agree with his views...As you say, we all have different views.
I think he will be used as an escape goat.
regards, Steve

I read that the dj owns the station so you is gonna sack him?
it seems he was playing a request for somebody stuck in the traffic jam.

In Japan, we have just the place for it.
Suicide Cliff
Friend of our family jumped off the clif ( wife and husband ), miraculously, the wife survived but she succeeded a few months later.
