The Verve contemporaraies

Posted by: rega1 on 17 March 2008

I am looking for a new artist that compares to the British group The Verve. I own everything they have released, and my favorite is "A storm in heaven". I down my staple like my death cab, cold play, etc.

Any suggestions?

One assumes you have Mr Ashcrofts solo albums?

I find Radio 2's Maconnie and Radclife show on at 8pm Mon-Thur or Whispering Bob Harris's show on Saturdays @ midnight, all availabe on the net if the times aren't convnient, are a great source for new music. Also the Uncut magazine have pertty good reviews.

The Verve we were one of the best bands out of that era with some beautiful songs. Others you could consider :

*]Thirteen Senses - Coldplay / Doves like
  • I am Kloot - Charletons like
  • Embrace - Coldplay like
  • Elbow

I find a lot of the Brit Pop type groups have a good couple of songs and all most rush out an LP with relatively low quality material.

    Good luck

If you have never heard them, investigate Joy Division. That will put the Verve into perspective.

Spiritualized are probably in the same vein - they even featured Mrs Ashcroft, Kate Radley, for a while.

Yes, when she was still Mrs Spiritualised.

Can't believe it took a fortnight for someone to mention that!

So, when is the new one out?

Ditto 'Aphrodite's Child' the old Greek proggers with Demis Roussos on vocals. Have a listen to their 666 album to see where the Verve copped all their licks. They're quite open about it, they used to use it as a taped intro to their live shows, might still do for all I know
