If it's a Naim amp, then use NACA5, minimum 3.5 metres, prefer 5 metres and anything up to 10 metres.

But you knew that didn't you? Smile

What is it about the Odyssey that you don't like, or to put it another way what is it you want more of or less of?

Smooth how?

Smooth sounding? Smooth texture? Which? How much do you want to spend? Will you consider a s/h cable? What amps do you have? Speakers?

How about reminding us of your system, or even better how about putting your system in your public profile like so many of us do?

Frank.

avi ref cd player primare amp and jmlabs 915.1 speakers. the amp i am hoping to replace soon.
the jm labs have a foward balance not helped by the silver plated chord, i was thinking maybe a copper only wire to curb some hi freq harshness
also the avi can be sometimes a bit clinical for my taste.

Have you tried Kimber?
I went through loads of differant types b4 settling on this (4TC). It sounded better than the Naim to my ears...
The plus is you can borrow some for 60 days and send it back if you don't like it!

Townsend Isolda works well in all systems I have heard to date except my own.

I'll stick to Naca5 until I change my speakers.

In a CDX2/XPS2/202/200/Ruark Prologue Two system, I concluded that I'd actually prefer to downgrade by dropping the XPS2, than drop the Isolda for Naca5.

Steve.

If you're imminently thinking of changing your amp, it may be best to hold off any changes in the speaker wire until after that event. If you don't, you may end up having to go through the whole process again with a new amp and who knows it might work better with the Odyssey. How long has the Odyssey been in the system?

I agreew ith david. If you're thinking of buying a new amp you should consider the cable as part of the deal. For example if you went with Chord Electronics, Odyssey would work and Isolda would be even better, but if you bought Naim, you'd be better off with NACA5.

Isolda is around £50/m and Odyssey is £17/m - these are expensive cables and you could make an expensive mistake.

Incidentally I've played with the lower end Ecosse cables and they're good too.

right chaps i don't really know how old the odyssey is but i replaced it with ecosse cs 2.3 £45 for 2x5 metres fully terminated in my system a revelation this cable is quite simply superb i have also jumped from bi-wire to single wire.
it has made my system smooth to the point i might keep the amp. this cable is great value for money, all the music ic there and it make's me wonder about the pricing of cable.
thats why i think the naca5 is such good value for money it is very fairly priced .perhaps the odyssey was very old i just don't know.thanks to all of you for your help in this matter and if it's o.k.to post this thanks to acton gate audio and their staff and the great service and advice given.
frank spot on about the ecosse this is the first time i have agreed with what hi fi mag for a very long time.
