Do you talk face to face to people as you talk to them online?

I think I do...

Do you mean, "do we hold an imaginary image of that person's face...?" etc ?

Naah; would one talk to eg. me, face to face, in the same manner as that which one uses when separated by t'internet ( and in your case by the bulk of the planet )?

Oh, I see.

Yes, absolutely.

(Although I don't see how Marlon Brando separates us...)

No. Face to face you are party to a whole raft of visual feedback that isn't available on-line. Even with videoconference systems (excepting possibly the very top end ones) an awful lot is lost in transmission.

Regards,

Willy.

There would be less mesunderstandings thats for sure. In communication words only make up 7% of how we interpret what people say, body language etc makes up the rest.

Depends on the person I guess. I'm one of those people who will talk to anyone on the basis that we're all the same, and when I am meeting them for the first time, remember that they are also meeting me for the first time! (poor sods). Much better to just be at ease with people from the off, in exactly the way we talk on the forum.
I know some people feel it difficult when meeting new people, or going to a party on your own when you know no-one, but that's another good reason for going the extra mile, because some people can't break the ice.
So, in answer to the question, yes.

My written style is different from the manner in which I speak, but overall I the message I put over would be the same.

I would like to think that there was nothing I would say online that I would not be willing to say to a person's face.

I will comment that I have seen some posts on this forum that were downright rude and offensive, and which would have led to a bloody nose for the author had the comments been made face to face - and deservedly so.

Cheers

Almost all ppl. I've met in person told me my on-line persona is exactly the same as in person.

Except I swear more.

I hope I do. I know that if certain people here spoke to me face to face as they do to people on here then I might suffer a very sudden sense of hunour failure. Being downright rude and arsey just because you are invisible is a loathsome and utterly cowardly way to behave.

Mike

Are you agreeing with Rob that you'd bloody the nose of somebody that spoke to you in person as they might have on the Forum?

I ask merely for informationn.

Hi Deane,

I didn't actually say that I would bloody someone's nose. My point was that rude and offensive people are deserving of all they get - and a bloody nose may well be their just desserts.

Fortunately for many offenders, the invisibility afforded by the forum safeguards them from this potentially tactile eventuality.

Cheers

Fire wars on internet forums are like road rage - only you don't ever get the chance to pull up next to the 'V' flicker at the traffic lights and watch them shit themseves.
